I'm watching park attendance closely already this season (San Diego has the best attendance in the league at the moment by the way), and guess who has the early lead in low attendance yep the DRays.

This seems real odd to me in some respects... covered roof, so it's nice and warm; playing the Red Sox; new skipper Lou Pinella, so it makes little sense to me early in the season.

The average attendance over 2 games this season is a whopping 22,957. They have had a total 45,915 for the two Red Sox games. Last night's marathon game? 11,524. Pathetic. If Portland draws 13,500 for a Padres vs AAA Beavers game, what do you think would have been the attendance if the Red Sox were here?

Going back to the Padres, they have had a total of 112,312, or a 56,156 average.

South Florida baseball is in trouble, plain and simple.

I'd be there atleast 4 times (per game) Smile

Well, they've probably lost a huge chunk of their revenue paying to have that roof covered.. 2-roof stadiums are not cheap!

I think it's way too early in the Lou Piniella Era to say that he's not helping attendance. The Tampa Bay community, I suspect, has been numbed by the losing. If the D-Rays are 5 games over .500 in June and they're still drawing 11,000 (in fairness, it was a Tuesday night), then there might be a problem.

Yeah, the Red Sox would've sold out here, but we're an MLB starved community vs. one that has watched five seasons of dreadful baseball in what looks to be a dreadful stadium.

HA! Ya, right! Now that is funny Blair. I can't think of a bigger draw with the Yankees the exception.

I'd actualy be interested to see those numbers, that is which team has the highest average attendance for road games. I'd guess that Boston and NYY are near the top, but other that that it would be interesting to see.

Tropiciana Field doesnt seem that bad to me. If they would take the roof off. I wonder how much it would cost to take the roof off the "Trop" and make it an outdoor stadium.

With all the rain they have on Florida's Gold Coast, only Miami gets more rain during the baseball season than Tampa Bay. I doubt seriously you will ever see that roof come off.

Besides, at night it lights up bright orange - very unique and colorful.

It would cost the same as a new park to take off the roof at the Trop..

Like Blair said it rains something awful in on the West Coast of FLA. They'd need a retractable roof if the took the roof off the place formerly known as the Suncoast Dome...

I think they will be getting a new park in Tampa near RayJay in a few years...They just need to win...Look at the Bucs..They couldn't draw flies, they had a joke of a team but...When the started to get a different attitude and a good coach (Dungy) they began to draw alot of fans and set the tone for that town...

I think Lou is the cornerstone of a franchise and will change the towns perception of that team...

Speaking of the Bucs, I read recently an article where that club now has almost 50,000 people on the season-ticket waiting list. That's a pretty impressive list. Then again, it's the NFL.

Yes, the Rays need to win more but they also have an extra incentive to win if they can prove that they can compete consistantly against the Yanks and Sux. That would make people take notice over there.

Exactly...Winning cures all ills...

Funniest things about the waiting lists in the NFL...In Green Bay it's between 60-75,000 right now...This year it's expecting to move up around the normal which is...20 or 30....LOL..So if your on the end of the list you'll be getting your tickets sometime in the year 3000 something....

The 'Hawks waiting list was once around 45-50,000 now they can't give tickets away...Thats what bad ownership and a threatened move can do to a teams fanbase....
