As per BC's request... On the left, I've eliminated the green and replaced it with a silverish-blue, and made the bird blue. On the right, I've given the previously silver bird a touch of blue, perhaps making it more "Heronish." I've put them side by side, so you can compare. I think the green looks neat, and the light bird against the dark background makes the logo "pop" a little bit. I'll try and keep from going Shilly and posting dozens of different color combinations, but if there's something you guys want to check out, I'm open to suggestions. I've made lots of Herons logos over the years, but I think this is my favorite. [This message was edited by 'Cuse Playa on March 16, 2004 at 05:23 PM.]

I think when it comes to changing the name of the team we get, it is a VERY good idea if we get the Expos. However, while watching the Mariners vs A's, I was thinking, what if we get the A's? Should we change the name or keep it? Also, if we keep the name, what sounds better, the Oregon A's or the Portland A's? So, what do you all think?

Ed-garrr...we talked about the "Athletics" problem awhile ago, and the consensus seemed to have been that we'd need to keep that name, but maybe change the colors. I believe "Pinot Noir" and "wheat" were the favorites "Pioneers" is cool I guess...I like it, it just seems sorta "blah" to me. Maybe its just because I think we've been waiting for the Portland Pioneers for decades now. I like Herons for reasons stated elsewhere in this thread. I still really like "Portland Cedars" too. It obviously harkens to Oregon's beautiful forests, but IMO, pays homage to the Northwest's indigenous peoples. We never really debated that name too much. Any other new and creative suggestions?

Portland Pioneers is my favorite. However, if we were to get the A's, I agree we should keep the name. I just am not sure which sounds better, the Oregon A's, or the Portland A's. Also, if we get the A's, I think we should keep the colors. When I fly back into Oregon and at this time of year, the colors green and yellow REALLY stand out, and it is beautiful!

How does this look... I think I should have made the baseball image a bit smaller so that it would fit inside the opening I made... As with all the images I have posted I have these available as photoshop files (.psd) if anyone wants them...

IMO, it makes the thing look too busy, but then again, I like simplicity. In the original, I tried to "suggest" a baseball without making it too explicit. On the left wing, I added a "feather" which makes the line of the bird's wings mirror where the threading on a ball would be. I've added a little bit of a shadow here, so maybe that helps, but basically, this is what I was trying to go for: (note: the ball would need to be rotated forward a little bit, but this was the best image I could find...)

Cuse, those logos are fantastic. I really do look forward to your posts. I've always been a "Pioneers" fan, but I can't think of a logo for that name that would look as cool as your Herons logos. I'm also a big fan of the Pinot and Wheat colors for the A's.
