This is the place to discuss the merits of the 7 site locations up for grabs in Portland.

They are:
  • The "Blanchard" Site - This site is currently home to warehouse and office space for the Portland Public Schools, hence the site is often referred to as the "PPS Site" as well. The site is one block north of NE Broadway, just north of the Rose Garden.

  • The "Post Office" site - Located on the west side of the Broadway Bridge in NW Portland, the site is where the current Central Post Office, and distribution center is located. It is juts across the street from Union Station, the train station in Portland.

  • The "Union Station" site - Located just across from the PO site, the Union Station site would be directly next to the train station, and just next to the river.

  • The "405-Cap" site - Situated partially on top of I-405 in SW Portland, this site would very nearly be in downtown.

  • The "Lincoln High School" site - This site sits where some, or most of the 405 cap would be, but without straddling the freeway. It would sit where Lincoln High School currently sits.

  • The "PGE Park" site - The second "option" for the site is now being considered where the currently PGE Park is located in NW Portland. Done in 2 phases, the ballpark would be developed just west of the current ballpark in the first phase, then during the off-season, the rest of the current PGE Park would be leveled and phase 2 would complete the site development.

  • The "Lents" site - Located in far SE Portland, just off I-205 and Foster road, this site would require little, if any, demolition of existing structures.

I still beleive that it will be at the Blanchard site, that's what I've felt from the very beginning, and i havn't seen any thing to change that. The only other site I can see working would be Union Station.

Any aerial views of the Post Office site, Maury? Just curious.

I don't know if this really matters, but I used www.topozone.com to find elevations of the sites.

These are accurate within about 10-20 feet

PGE: 100ft
Lincoln: 100ft
Post Office: 35ft
Union Station: 35ft
PPS: 90ft
Lents: 200ft
I-405: 70ft

The Wilametter River through downtown looks to be at about 20ft, thoguht that isn't as clear.

Here is the Portland area.

Maury,

Do you have an overview of the Union Station site? I like the Post Office myself but if you have a picture of that one...please post it.

Thanks!
