Question:
What kind of park style would you most like to see in Portland?

  • Traditional? - This would be Fenway, Shibe, Ebbett's, Yankee Stadium, Old Tiger Stadium, Wrigley.
  • Retro? - This would be Camden, Great American in style.
  • Modern? - While Safeco does have some brick, the overall design is modern. Same would be said of Minute Maid, or BOB.
  • Radical? - Something not done yet. Not "cookie-cutter", but something totally new.
  • Amalgamation? - A blended style of ballpark.

Discuss why you picked it in replying to this thread.

I'd want traditional on the exterior, but modern in the interior.

When you walk by the park it should blend in with the existing buildings around it (lots of brick if it's at the PPS Site), but from inside it should look like a new park, but have some sort of "Portland" or "Oregon" thing (Roses or something).

    RADICAL

I want something that makes Portland stand out. I think Portland tends to confuse "livable" with "boring." Give me a ball park that is completely different than anything anyone has ever seen.

After reading Tim's post, I realized that an amalgamation of the styles might be prefereable.

I have added that in. Sorry if you have already voted.

    I'm going with "Amalgamation".

The reason is that I see the need for the ballpark to not conform in all terms, yet fit into the location.

Portland has this funky, retor vibe that needs to be leveraged.

At the same time, I'd like to see something totally new.

No trains, slides, or pools in centerfield please. Wink

I voted for Amalgmation too. I'd take the PPS site concept and combine it with several ideas posters had on here. For my ballpark i'd take Big Boomers idea of the Northwest lodge on the outside. I like the PPS sites idea of the forest but i would expand it to have a row or 2 of big trees right behind the fence in right. If they have the buildings like in the PPS site concept i'd have them made of old brick like Rob Neyers old Portland brewery idea. I'd also have roof top seating on top those buildings. Down the right field line i'd take John Farrs idea of the ivy covered chain linked fence but it would have peep holes for a bullpen sports bar, grass seating, and the bullpens. Roses would be a must somewhere, and in the back of the left field bleachers i'd have small trees on the concorse. I'd have a waterfalls in that forest area in center that is a copy of a oregon waterfall if that can be done. Most importlantly i want to see an odd shaped quirky field like all the great ballparks have.

I voted for amalgamation as well. I agree with Tim. Blend in with the existing buildings on the outside, but be modern inside. Putting roses on the ballpark grounds is a must. Trees on the grounds behind the outfield to give you the feeling you are looking into a forest would be pretty cool too.

I agree! Also hope they put in as many big evergreen trees as they can.

Amalgamation. I don't want a bad combination of retro and modern or something like that.
The ballpark needs something that says "Portland" in it though like some roses or the evergreen tree idea mentioned earlier.
