Dear Portland Metro Area Baseball Fans,

This is a rally cry for support of the Portland Beavers.

As you are probably aware, with the debut of the MLS Portland Timbers in PGE Park in 2011, the Portland Beavers are in danger of leaving the metro area. As you are also probably aware, the Beavers are currently in conversations with the City of Beaverton to determine the feasibility of relocating to Beaverton.

If you have been following any of the MLS/Beavers process, you will know that Beaverton is likely the final opportunity in the Portland metro area before the Beavers would leave the region.

I for one, do not want to see the Beavers leave Portland, and would prefer to watch the Beavers in Beaverton vs. having no baseball at all.

Part of the successful campaign to lure a MLS franchise was the tremendous support of the Timbers faithful. This support became evident to Portland City Council and ultimately a convincing factor in the Council’s decision to proceed with PGE park renovations.

I am asking you, as baseball fans to show your support for your team. Perhaps Portland’s baseball faithful should have been more vocal in the decisions regarding PGE Park, however, that process is nearly complete and we have a new chance to voice our support for the Beavers and for baseball in the metro area.

Below is a link to a comment form on the City of Beaverton website. Also provided below is an email address for the City of Beaverton Council members. I urge you to comment to or write Council to voice your support for a new Beavers ballpark in downtown Beaverton. This could be our last chance!!!

Thanks for Reading!

Thanks, whynotpdx. I'll be sure and write. Actually, we should have been writing all along to the Portland City Council when they were going talong that convoluted path that eventually led them nowhere for a ballpark in the Portland city limits. The PPS site was the most optimal location and they completely missed it - What a bunch of short-sighted idiots that run Portland!

Here's what I sent to the Beaverton officials:

I am writing to you, the City Council of Beaverton, in regard to the possible relocation of the Portland Beavers Triple A baseball team to Beaverton. As the city leaders of Portland have so thoroughly botched each and every attempt to find a place for the team within the Portland city limits (completely missing the best site in the Rose Quarter where the Portland Public Schools are located), perhaps your fine city will be able to come up with a location that would welcome them with open arms. The Beavers and their over-100 year history in this community are a civic treasure that we do not need to lose; our summers will be less memorable if they should happen to leave the area completely. Your willingness to step forward and consider finding a place to build a ballpark in Beaverton for the team to play in is a breath of fresh air in the middle of a bunch of councilors in other cities who are afraid to propose and attempt any new ideas to do something bold and aggressive for the improvement of their communities. I applaud your courage and civic pride, and want you to know that there are many, many baseball fans out here (like myself) who are behind your efforts. If and when this comes about, we will be there in force!

A letter perhaps should indicate how many more times you'll stop in Beaverton with the Beavers than you do now.

Beaverton needs "numbers" to get this done, much the same as Portland did.

Well, since I'm the official scorer, I'm going to be there at virtually every game anyway, no matter where they are located ... unless they move to Tucson or Honolulu!

If any suburban location would work, this would be it. Primarily a middle to upper middle class area. There are ten high schools within 7 or 8 miles of downtown Beaverton. Kids from middle and upper middle class homes have dicretionary income and lacking another hot spot, this will likely become it. Also doesnt' require a trip downtown.

The ten schools: Beaverton, Aloha, Sunset, Southridge, Westview, Jesuit, Valley Catholic,
Wilson, Century, Liberty.

Well,I have not posted sometime since I have moved to the desert. I do enjoy the Phoenix area with the d-backs, cardinals, suns and coyotes. Also, spring training is probably the most exiting time (cheap tickets, great weather and a fistful of teams to watch). Anyways, my company just sent me to Albuquerque last month for a large construction project and I have already been to almost 5 Isotopes games. Now their AAA stadium is unreal and quite impressive for this area. What great fans they have in regards to their ball-team. Tailgaiting like its college football. All five games have been sold out and the scenery, atmoshpere and stadium almost takes one back like they are in a Major League Stadium. I think Beaverton, with its income level and population can produce something similar to what these New Mexicans have here. Hopefully, the Beavers remain in Oregon for sometime to come. Regards.
