Just wondering if anyone knows of any new developments in the Beaver's stadium saga since Paulson's decision to suspended negotiations with Beaverton. Does this reopen the possibility of a Portland site? Are the Beavers as good as gone? Is the failure to reach a deal in Beaverton a good thing for supporters of MLB to Portland?
I'm living in New Jersey (though I hope to move back to Oregon soon) and having a hard time finding any new info online. The oregonlive forums are pretty much useless as every stadium discussion eventually descends into nothing more than rants against public financing for stadiums. I also thought 2 months was way too long for this site to go without any new posts, so I figured I'd try to get a discussion going (I've visited this site regularly since it was the PBG, though I rarely post, and I never like to see a lack of activity) I appreciate any insight or ideas. |

Go to the MLS to PDX forum over at soccercityusa.com. That place keeps up on the Beavers' stadium situation as well as anyone, and you'll find some of the former OSC regulars posting in there frequently.
Personally I think things look really grim for any baseball in Portland after next year. I've been meaning to write something in here about it but I've been too distracted (and apparently, so is everyone else which is part of the reason why it is dying on the vine). |

Hey, thanks - that is a pretty good site. A lot of excitement and enthusiasm over there which is good to see - a nice counter to the opinion of some that no one cares about soccer. Personally, I am not much of a soccer fan, though I am glad Portland got into the MLS, and I think it will be successful. Anything that improves the sports landscape in Portland is good by me.
As for baseball, I think my interest has been recharged from being bored at work and looking over the Blanchard site renderings, and from taking a trip to Pittsburgh and PNC Park in September. Although the trip was fun, it was kind of depressing because the city reminded me so much of Portland, except for the first class stadiums on their waterfront. PNC is now my favorite MLB stadium so far (and I'm originally from SF), and I know I will have a hard time letting go of the belief that something like PNC could happen in Portland. So who knows, maybe the A's Bay Area stadium search falls apart, or maybe Selig decides the league needs 32 teams to balance the schedule. Maybe the political and business climate in Portland becomes more conducive to landing a team (hey, at least Portland has multiple fortune 500s now - Precision Castparts joined Nike on the list last year - it's a start). Of course all of these things are long shots, but I like to think Portland will be ready if the opportunity ever presents itself. For the record, the Blanchard site is still my favorite. Would tie in nicely with the planned Rose Quarter development. |

When the PDX metro area gets its 400 to 600 thousand more residents in the next 20 years thats when MLB will be here. I really doubt that the Blanchard site will be available then due to the fact that when the economy hits its next big growth spurt that is prime real estate for development (the "eastside" Pearl).

Although not directly related to MLB in PDX I posted a link to the San Jose Campaign here:
