Report: New Twins park will tangle intersections
Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - 4:58 PM CST Tuesday by John Vomhof Jr. Staff Writer

A new Minnesota Twins ballpark will make roads in downtown Minneapolis more congested following day games, but fans won't be bothered by odors from the neighboring garbage burner, according to an environmental impact study released Tuesday.

The study found that 17 downtown intersections likely would "operate poorly" following weekday afternoon games, which would typically end just as rush hour begins. Twelve intersections would "operate poorly" prior to weekday evening games, when incoming baseball fans would blend with rush-hour traffic.

While vehicle emissions would increase in those areas, they would remain within state-mandated guidelines.

Meanwhile, testing showed that odors from the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center, commonly referred to as the garbage burner, "should not have an impact on ballpark users."
