Cropp to Propose Changes to D.C. Stadium Plan

From WTOP

Updated: Friday, Nov. 5, 2004 - 11:08 AM

WASHINGTON - D.C. City Council Chairwoman Linda Cropp has a proposal to build a new baseball stadium on the grounds of RFK stadium and to reduce the fiscal impact to the city by 20 percent, WTOP has learned.

Cropp is expected to announce a new financing proposal that would reduce the risk to the city.

It would mean that no new ballpark would be constructed on a site near the Anancostia River just over one mile south of the U.S. Capitol.

Cropp and other members of the council are expected to discuss the plan publicly for the first time at 12:30 p.m. at the Wilson Building.

The office of D.C. Mayor Tony Williams had no comment when contacted by WTOP Friday morning.
