I think the Mariners will do everything to keep MLB away from PDX. That includes trying to move their AAA team to our region. I also see a dis-information campaign by paid third parties. I know, I know, wearing a tin hat here but things happen. Ask Julius C. and Brutus.

Tacoma was drawing sub-4,000 per game even after they first affiliated with the Mariners in 1995... until the 2001 season, and there and since they've been averaging in the upper 4,000s. Reported, of course.

I think they'll make some protest, yes, but they won't be as vehement as Angelos was about the Expos moving to Washington because they know that, ultimately, both cities are capable of supporting major league teams on their own and, as far apart as we are, they have no claim on Portland other that being a part of their broadcast territory. They won't lose as much revenue as they will say they will if the territory is split, and they will get either a natural rivalry in the AL West or a great interleague rivalry if Portland goes to the NL West that will actually help them.

You hit on a good point. There is untapped money to be made in rivalries. The Mariners never had that luxury. Properly marketed a Portland/Seattle rivalry would be a huge success.

I have nothing to say... I just want to break up the dominance of Roy on the front of the boards. Big Grin

I was sitting here bored last night and was wondering what it would feel like to bat the cycle. Sorry for my lapse of judgement at OSC's expense. Big Grin
