Does it strike anybody else as ironic that the A's can't get a stadium deal, don't know where in the country they're going to play in a few years, and yet tonight take the field against the Yankees in the Divisional Series?

In a word: Yes.

They've got a winning team with some great young players, a bright GM, etc., etc. Can't believe they can't get this done. They bent over backward to get the Raiders back.

Maybe that's the problem.

That might be it- if I were Oakland, I would feel pretty burned by the Raiders.

It's a shame, too. I can't see the A's being this good again without a major payroll bump. But they're ready now. Maybe something in the off-season....

And with the way they're playing, they might well make the Series.

Can you imagine that? A team that doesn't know where they're going to be playing in a few years, a team that can't get a stadium, in (and if they get there, likely winning) the Series?

I see the best chance of the A's staying is if they win the series, that might cause enough local interest in the team to get a new park or local ownership, a similar scenerio probably saved the NHL devels.

The Devils have very specific arena problems. Lack of fan support hasn't really been their biggest problem.

I don't think they need to win the Series, though it couldn't hurt their stadium quest.

If they go to the Series, and Oakland still won't kick in public money, then you better get your mayor involved. Because then they should leave Oaktown and PDX is as good a place as any other....

Well, that's it. The A's are out.

Frankly, I was a little surprised to see so many empty seats for the last game in Oakland....

I should say that I'm sorry to see them go.

If the Yanks couldn't take it, I was pulling for the A's to come out on top.

NY, I think the empty seats you saw were the seats atop "Mt. Davis", which are sold only for football. They are WAAAAAAAAAY up there! eek

The A's are still a young team, and it showed against the veteran Yankees. If they can keep that team together (especially that first baseman wink ), then they could have a few championships coming in Oakland (or PDX... big grin ).

Nope, I saw plenty of green in the upper deck, as well.

The game before that had an announced attendance of 43,681. The official capacity is "over 50,000" according to their site, which I presume would not include seats not sold for baseball.

Regardless, they deserve better.
