I think a whole new section for the above topics should be considered. They alone are enough of a topic to warrant such a section.

Ya, I think that the creation of a whole Forum may be a bit much, but I'll talk it over amongst the staff and see what comes out of that. If things pick up here, I can see doing just that.

Thanks for the suggestion Schilly!

personally...I like the Portland Herons...pays homage to a great bird of Oregon and also to the long history of "bird" names in Major League baseball.(i.e. Cardinals, Orioles, Blue Jays, etc.) Primary colors being a BlueGray with an Orange accent. At one time, I even made a logo and uniforms, I'll see if I can dig those out and post them. Also, I like the idea of the stadium being located near the Rose Garden...with the name of The Rose Diamond...anyway, just my thoughts on a very interesting subject -- and by the way, I don't even live in Portland, did for 2years and maybe MLB might even lure me back from Hawaii.

The Rose Diamond is a great nickname for a stadium. I just hope WHEN Portland gets a team they place the stadium overlooking the Wilamette.
I especially like the stadium lay out on the east side of the river. Overlooking the river & downtown will give the city a recognizable landscape.
Right now when people think of Portland they think of trees, or worse yet that it is a suburb of Seattle...(sorry heard it many times since I moved here!),
A MLB stadium downtown overlooking the city...would be very cool.

I'll be very disapointed if 'Beavers' doesn't remain the name of any professional baseball team in Portland.

Welcome Eric!

Hey Eric, welcome aboard. I hope to see you posting here often.

To the Beavers name... it's got to be up there in a lot of respects. With the exception of the Padres though, there have been no PCL names retained out west here.

Glad you joined, and I hope you post here often,

I think that the Idea about a Bird style name is not all that great. There are too many, we should be more original. We need to do like colorado, the Rockies, we need a name like that. the "Portland Path Finders" it goes with the Portland Trail Blazers. Alot of cities have alike team names. Like the Chicago Bears, Cubs. Detroit Lions, Tigers. St. Louis Cardinals(old NFL team), Cardinals

Oregon Pioneers would be better suited to go along with your naming question. When I think of Path-finders, I think of the car/suv. What would be nice is the P in Pioneers could also signify Portland, like the Pittsburgh Pirates or the Chicago Cubs. Personally, I like the Oregon Cascades or the Portland Cascades.

I have 2 things to say. First, Dosent the Trail-Blazers go with a car name too. And second the is a P in Path-Finders. I just cant see a good logo and good colors comming out of the word Pioneers. I still think the best solution is to keep the BEAVERS. That is what the Portland baseball has almost always been called except for that one stand of the portland rockies.

You make a valid point on the TrailBlazer also being a car/suv. After doing a little research on the Chevy TrailBlazer, it looks like it was originally called the Chevy Blazer. Just recently they added the "trail" to it in marketing the vehicle. The Chevy Blazer came out in 1969. The Portland Trail Blazers started in 1970. Basically they came out at the same time. I am no Portland Trail Blazer historian, or a Chevy historian. I am not originally from the Portland Area. I found your analogy interesting. If anyone is interested on the history of the chevy blazer check out this site: www.slosh.com/cars/blazer.html

Back to the discussion of the logos and such. I enjoy going over this topic just like you do. I can't wait until this is something we can really talk about. Until then let's hope that this makes it to the senate floor and gets resolved soon.

while i like the name expos, it's a mistake to keep the same name after moving a team. one need look no further than the utah jazz and the los angeles lakers for proof. BUT "expo" is pretty universal, and explorer is reminiscent of the old name, and adds relevancy to the oregon area, with trail blazers and whatnot. so i cast my vote for the Portland Explorers.

I personally think that The Beavers should not be the name of the team for two reasons. Primarily because merchandising will be a big part of the success of this franchise and the owner should not use a name or color scheme that Duck fans will not purchase. The Ducks should not be an option as the name for the same reason. A new name with a color scheme that is neutral to both Oregon and Oregon State would sell to fans of both Universities.

The second reason is that this name is a tie to a minor league past which is something I would like to leave behind when we head into our Major League future.

WELCOME MG20!!

I tend to agree that the Beavers isn't a good name for an MLB team...
