Like I said, it would be great to see one of the old names resurrected. The Monarchs, the Greys, the Orphans, etc. Plus, it would instantly connect Portland with wellknown baseball history, creating an opportunity to showcase some of Portland's own links to baseball history. Herons or Pioneers would be ok, but neither one of them strike me as Major League Baseball names. They just seem more like names a Minor league team would use in an effort to create some sort of small town, local image as a tie-in for the hometown fans. I have no doubt of the importance and relevance of both names to Oregon and Portland, but they seem kinda amateurish in a larger sense. A historical name, or something altogether different (Portland Civics vs. New York Mets...) would, in my opinion, create more of a sense of "belonging" which is something that a MLB team in Portland, and Portland in general could use. We have such a great city, with a proud baseball heritage that gets very little respect because nobody knows about it. Some other Old Jerseys:
