Here's a concept for an expansion/relocated team in Portland that I posted recently on another message board (Chris Creamer's Sports Logos, www.chriscreamer.com), and I was pointed here by one of the forum visitors there. These were done originally as a relocation concept for the Oakland A's, but I haven't gotten around to showing them off until now (I did this about four months ago). New nickname: the Portland Lumberjacks. The forest green stays in the concept as the main color, but the gold is now changed to "Timber" and red ("Rose Garden Red"?) is added to the color scheme...

EDIT: I think I posted this in the wrong forum, so I'm putting it in one of the other ones as well. Mods, if you want to delete this, that's okay.

Welcome James Moser!

I saw the link for these, but it's great having them here in one spot.

Welcome, and I hope to see you here often.

PS... I'm a fan of Richie Sexson, and it's great that he was in the All-Star game for the second year running. Don't know if you know this but he's from Portland.

I guess the more i look at the jersey concepts they arent all that bad. I could livr with them. We really need to work on the hat concept though, we really need to make a better hat than that.

And maury you brought up a good point, I didnt know thatRichie was from Portland, what about another Oregon native that is making a name for himself in Boe Hart with the St. Louis Cardinals. We will really need to watch for him in the future. St. Louis has some really good young talent.

James Moser, what made you make these Jersey concepts for a city so far away? I think that if you told it would be an interesting story, were you asked to make them or something else?

"He's a lumberjack and he's OK..."

If you know the song, you understand the potential downside of Lumberjacks. Not that there's anything wrong with that, ya know.

I think the name should be changed from lumber jacks to Cascades, someone else posted that name earlier but that sounds the best to me.

Portland Cascades
Oregon Cascades

We would need to change the colors and the hat, we would need to change every thing actually.

what about another Oregon native that is making a name for himself in Boe Hart with the St. Louis Cardina

Bo Hart is a former Gonzaga Bulldog and a heck of a player...

Too bad most people don't know Gonzaga even has another sport besides Men's Basketball...The baseball team is usually pretty good and worth a look if they are ever in the Oregon area...

I've said it for over a year and I say it again...

Timberjacks

Cascades...Too funny...I brought up that name about 8 months ago and it's making a comeback.... Wink

Lumberjacks, Timberjacks... neither of them is my favorite (forest industry references don't do anything for me, and I'm a native), though I like the uniforms...

I like Cascades, which is reminiscent of Rockies

I love Explorers, which is reminiscent of both the Trailblazers and the Mariners.

Why the aversion to the lunber industry references? I am really interested. Is this an attitude that is prevalent in Oregon or more of a personal aversion? Anyone else, please feel free to chime in, I would be interested in hearing the local opinions of the lumber industry.

When we conceived a marketing plan we were gung-ho about Lumberjacks. Image of a big manly Paul Bunyan type guy swinging a tree as a bat, then you hire some big muscled male model type as the mascot and you appeal to the men, who like things manly and the women who like big muscled guys. Give him a nice alliterative manly name, Lumberjack Lars etc... I think you get the picture.

Seriously though, I am very interested in the local opinion of the Lumber industry. I get the feeling Maury might want to move this string to the BBQ...

Yeah, some people think that there is a huge stereotype across the country that Oregon is nothing more than a backwoods state where everyone wears flannel and chops down trees for a living. I guess people just don't want to play that up. I like the Lumberjacks idea though.

Hey, those are some nice lookin uniforms. I especially like the red alternates! I don't know about the luberjacks, but hey it is nice work. You should try doing the explorers if you have the chance. See what you can do with that!
