The General shoots his Mouth Off: George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees has come out against revenue sharing. Citing the Montreal Expos as an example, Steinbrenner feels the Expos should be moved out of Montreal, and not become a burden to Major League owners. Steinbrenner voted against Major League expansion in 1995, when Arizona and Tampa Bay were awarded
franchises. Steinbrenner, wants the league to clean up it’s own house before adding teams.

Expos Update: The Montreal Expos continue to move forward with their plans for a new stadium and ownership group. According to Jacques Menard, the current head of the Expos consortium, the Expos will likely have a new group (including all of the current owners) in place by the end of the month. The team has also shelved their current plans for a $250 million stadium, and is looking for new blueprints for a less expensive facility. Menard hopes to have plans for the new stadium in place by mid-January.
